The magic of Opinion Markets is that everyone has freedom of expression yet a concise representative group voice is visible to all at all times and understood at a glance. No other group communication system can achieve this.

Opinion Markets combine the diversity of a free floating discussion forum with the precision of a democratic vote. It's an organic polling process that works without pre-structured questions or surveys. Opinions are harvested and ranked live, automatically.

  • Everyone has equal control over the voting agenda
  • Everyone can see the group voice at all times
  • Everyone can speak at the same time
  • Everyone is engaged, the group is connected.

Opinion Market polls harvest opinions directly and continuously – no waiting to be asked. The idea transcends the problem of knowing which questions to ask, when to ask and how to structure them.

How Opinion Market polls work

Opinion Market polls are interactive, continuous and transparent. A forum is opened with a topic and a list on alternative concise one line opinions appear in a leaderboard under the topic. Anyone in the forum can add to the list with a \"write-in\" opinion. All opinions compete for votes and are ranked live by votes for all to see. People can return to the forum to vote.

People can visit the forum any time and vote again to express their changing opinions and priorities through time. Only the last vote for each person is counted in the vote tally so there is no risk of corrupting the poll regardless of how often people vote.

Voting can be anonymous or transparent to the poll administrators or transparent to the whole group like a show of hands.

Example Opinion Market

An Opinion Market example can be seen in our DOME of Conscience project with the parliaments and national assemblies. These Opinion Markets use the fully transparent configuration which means everyone can see exactly how each person votes and all opinions are ranked live by votes for all to see.

Visit www.ukdome.com and see candidates for the UK Parliament voting on the issues of the day in the leadup to the May 05 General Election. All the opinion placards competing for votes in the leaderboard were harvested directly from sitting members and candidates.

Click any opinion to see who voted for it. Then click any name to see all opinions voted by that candidate. Use the vote filters near the top right of the leaderboard to see votes from the different countries and parties. Click the \"Who's Voting\" link to see a list of all candidates voting. See the debating forums on the far right of each opinion. For the full history of this Dome of Conscience initiative see www.domevote.com.
